📘 Part of a structured algebra learning system
This worksheet helps students identify whether algebraic expressions are expanded or unexpanded. Students practise recognising whether brackets are still present or have been removed by multiplication.
Level: Beginner (Grades 6–8) | Topic: Simplifying Expressions
Concept
An expanded expression has no brackets because the multiplication has already been carried out.
An unexpanded expression still has brackets.
Example
Compare:
3(x + 2) and 3x + 6
Unexpanded: 3(x + 2)
Expanded: 3x + 6
The first expression still has brackets, while the second expression has been expanded.
